Charles E. Bunch is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of PPG Industries.

After joining PPG in 1979, he held positions in finance and planning, marketing, and general management in the U.S. and Europe during his first 12 years with the company.

He was named general manager of architectural coatings in 1992, vice president of that unit in 1994, and vice president, fiber glass, in 1995. He was elected senior vice president of strategic planning and corporate services in 1997, and executive vice president, coatings, in early 2000.  He was named president, chief operating officer and board member in July 2002; chief executive officer in March 2005; and to his current post in July 2005.

A native of Philadelphia, Bunch received a degree in international affairs from Georgetown University and a master's degree in business administration from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.  He is a former director and chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and the National Association of Manufacturers. He is a current member of the board of directors of the H. J. Heinz Company, the PNC Financial Services Group, the National Paint and Coatings Association and a member of the University of Pittsburgh’s board of trustees.
