Ingredients

    pork spare ribs, cut into individual ribs

  • 1

    tsp cooking wine

  • 1

    tbsp canola or vegetable oil

  • 4

    tbsp Heinz Tomato Ketchup

  • 2

    tbsp sugar

  • 2

    tbs Chinkiang/Zhenjiang vinegar (substitution below)

    tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 1/2

    cups water

Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Add ribs to a large pot. Cover with cold water, add cooking wine and bring to a boil.  Boil for 2-3 minutes, drain and rinse to remove impurities.

  2. Step 2

    Heat oil in wok over high heat.  Add the ribs, lightly brown all the sides, flipping often.

  3. Step 3

    In a small bowl, combine Heinz Tomato Ketchup, sugar, vinegar and soy sauce.  Add to the wok, stir to coat the ribs.

  4. Step 4

    Add water to the wok, stir and simmer covered for 20-25 minutes, until ribs are tender

  5. Step 5

    Uncover and increase heat allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the ribs with a glossy finish. Plate and garnish.

    Substitution: Substitute 2 tbsp rice vinegar plus ½ teaspoon soy sauce if Chinkiang/Zhenjiang vinegar is not available.

    Optional: Garnish with white sesame and green onions.
